Root canal therapy is a dental procedure used to treat a tooth that has become infected or severely decayed. The procedure involves removing the infected or damaged tissue inside the tooth, known as the pulp, and cleaning and sealing the root canals to prevent further infection. As an experienced endodontist, Dr. Samuel Black is an expert in treating tooth infection and decay, and has performed countless root canal therapy procedures. He understands that many patients may be nervous about dental surgery, and aims to provide them with the tools and resources they need to undergo their procedure and take control of their dental health.

A frenulum is a ridge of tissue that connects two body parts and facilitates motion of these parts. When this tissue that connects the tongue to the roof of the mouth is abnormally thick or tight, it is known as a tongue-tie. Similarly, if the frenulum connecting the lips to the gums is too thick, it is known as a lip-tie. Tongue-ties and lip-ties can cause a variety of short-term and long-term issues for infants and children, such as difficulty breastfeeding, speaking, swallowing and more. A pediatric frenectomy can release this tissue, improving the child’s overall health, wellness and confidence.

While tongue-ties and lip-ties are most common in children, they can occur in adults, too. Adults with tongue-ties and lip-ties may have had these conditions since birth, or they developed later in life due to an injury. Regardless of when these conditions appear, they can lead to jaw pain, poor oral health, difficulty speaking and more. Similar to a pediatric frenectomy, an adult frenectomy can release abnormally thick frenulums to improve the range of motion and overall quality of life.
